Local Spotlight: The Press
Whether you’re looking to relax with friends or get some work done, it’s all about the atmosphere. When it comes to the total package, The Press may be just what you’re looking for.
About The Press
Kevin Mitchell and his wife Erica moved to Florida a few years back, and soon noticed a need in the downtown Panama City community. During their trips downtown, they would often get the urge for a nice cup of coffee and a pastry. The only thing was that there were no coffee shops around. The couple are entrepreneurs with their own contracting business, so the seeds of interest were definitively planted. In the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, they decided to do something about it.
When Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida Panhandle in 2018, Panama City was one of the hardest hit, but the community started to rebuild. It was from this spirit of resilience and revival that The Press came to be. Inspired by the collective determination and fighting spirit, Kevin and Erica wanted to create a place where people could come and interact in a friendly, stimulating, and productive environment. They opened in December of 2020.
The Experience
At The Press, it’s all about the atmosphere. They want customers to feel relaxed and to have peace of mind. From the main counter built by none other than Kevin himself to the table-top candles made from coffee grounds and soy-based wax, The Press embodies community spirit and showcases local business.
The Press was designed with customers in mind. If you want to relax by yourself or with friends, there’s space for that. If you want to work or study in comfort, they’ve got that covered, too. The power hubs and workstations are available for your individual or group needs.
The Menu
The Press aims to please, with coffee beans supplied by local business Lucky Goat Coffee Co., for a high-quality product. You can savor the Roastmasters house blend with their signature pour-over technique, which is meticulously done to produce maximum flavor. The coffee menu includes espresso, cappuccino, and lattes, as well as a different special flavored blend featured every month. Iced coffees and frappes are there too. There is also hot chocolate and a variety of teas such as orange blossom, Ginger Twist, and chai.
You’re in for a real treat with the crepes. There’s the signature Riding With The King, a delectable delight filled with banana, Nutella, and peanut butter. You can also try the Fruitie Tootie, a crepe with a berries and cream medley.
Rounding out the menu are the charcuterie and lunch options. Their collection of curated meats, cheeses, fruits, chutneys, and pickled treats varies from season to season. There is also the chicken salad sandwich, which you can have on a toasted croissant or on its own. There’s no shortage of tasty fare here.
